Another lucky find from the Battlefields is this Sterling Silver US Army drivers badge.

This award, could include drivers of wheeled vehicles, drivers of tracked vehicles, motorcycles or mechanics; depending on the bar that was suspended on the loops below. It was created on July 28th 1942 and awarded for drivers/mechanics who had displayed aptitude and efficiency.

It would have been worn with pride on the left side pocket flap, below the ribbon bars.

Sadly the "aptitude and efficiency" of the owner of this item did not include him keeping it safe, as he was sadly parted from it during his service.

Above: Another Sterling silver drivers badge, this example still having the "driver - W" bar still attached. This item was once worn with pride by an American serviceman. It has now been rediscovered and can be kept safely in honour of the greatest generation.
