Recent excavations just beyond the landing beaches yield a huge jumble of US Army related items. During the war this area saw the establishment of one of the first major field hospitals in Normandy. Among the detritus of medical bottles and T5 parachute harnesses, shroud lines, and tubes was found an example of the famous "cricket", which members of the Airborne forces carried and used as a means of recognition during the initial landings. No doubt the owner of this cricket became a casualty during the fighting. We hope that the care he received at the field hospital meant that he got away from the fighting and made it home.
