Above and below: Recently recovered in Italy is this lovely condition Sterling Silver US marksmans badge. Perhaps not the sort of decoration associated with field wear, but a GI was proud to wear it into combat it would seem.

Another token, but in a more macabre style. This ring was found in the location of a German artillery battery position. The style and gruesome design is of the sort found with private purchase rings worn by some members of the German Armed Forces during WW2.

We've arrowed it in the first photograph, as the picture was taken on a mobile phone. In close up the ring is not unlike part of a childs halloween costume. Yet the ghoulish sentiment of the former owner and his profession as artilleryman may not be lost on the visiting veteran to this site.
