This exhibit shows items of US Paratrooper related items recovered from Normandy in March 2008. The 1910 pattern canteen and meat can lid as well as the "knuckleduster" are shown gathered around an unusual and fairly rare example of the M1 helmet, as once worn by an engineer attached to the paratroops.

The shell, a front seamed fixed bale helmet has been given an "E" for Engineers designation on both the left and right hand sides in white paint.

From the Lerenfort archives we show an Army Signal Corps photograph of a similar marked helmet in wear by a Technical Sargeant. The picture, taken the Summer of 1944 clearly shows his 1941 combat jacket, dust goggles attached to the helmet. For personal protection he is armed with a 30 calibre M1 carbine.
