
For some, the opportunity to live in Europe can be a reality, a dream come true. It can also mean that they can probably expect to find evidence of WW2 at the bottom of their gardens, in some cases quite literally.
In the case of the German helmet on this page it was as a result of some drainage ditch digging some 10 meters from the new proud owners front door!
The helmet was found in the region of Viessoix, Normandy. The area was fought over and liberated during August 1944 by 1st Battalion Norfolks and 3rd Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment as part of the British 3rd Infantry Division. The helmet does show considerable damage consistent with heavy shrapnel damage, (the area was bombed as well) and so the owner might well have been killed before the fighting. No associated remains were found however.
