This MG42 was left behind by the retreating Germans near Coutances in Normandy. This reason for this being evident in the detail below. The weapon has had the foresight shattered by shellfire, which may have also severed the bipod. The pistol grip may also have gone the same way.

Another landser dropped this "Fuß Puder" - footpowder in the Dives area of Normandy. This item was found as it had been left, on the surface.

The soldier with the foot problem was just one of many who passed this way on his way East and away from the advancing Allies artillery and bombers.

The MG42 below was lost near the famous town of Bastogne in December. This weapon does have an intact foresight, cocking handle and all it's bakelite fittings.
